Alta Buden, Visiting Artist-October

Alta Buden, Chicago
The theory of evolution posits that in the struggle fore existence, only those capable of adapting to their environments will remain to successfully pass on their genes. In culture everything is evolving daily on a microscale, people make arbitrary choices, love and hate random things, some muffins sell faster than others. Things gain meaning through use and familiarity, objects collect historical residues. Images become icons or fade into obscurity. Love grows from day to day interactions, and from dramatic events. I don't have a real agenda or plan, I'm simply trying in my work to address the absurdity that I find around me, in biology, in textiles, in thriftstores, on the streets, at parties, on craigslist. I love it, I'm overwhelmed always, and I'm trying to focus.
